India Team Creates Historical with 111 Medals at Hangzhou 2022 Asian Para Games
INDIA TEAM CREATES HISTORICAL WITH 111 MEDALS AT THE HANGZHOU 2022 ASIAN PARA GAMES
On the last day of the Games, Indian Para Athletes made history by finishing with a record 111 medals with 29 Gold , 31 Silver and 55 bronze in the Hangzhou Asian Para Games. India finally stood at number 5 in medal tally and Number 4 in total medal tally.
Total 303 Athletes ( 189 Men and 114 Women) participated in 17 Sports out of 22 Sports
The Indian para athletes won four more medals than the able- body athletes in Hangzhou Asian / Asian Para Games. These numbers are the most numbers of medals for the country in any major international multi - sport event.
The only time India had won 100 medals in a major international multi-sport event (Olympic / Paralympic , Asian / Asian Para Games, and Commonwealth Games) was at 2010 Commonwealth Games held at New Delhi .
India surpassed the previous best medal tally of 72 Medals ( 15 Gold, 22 Silver and 33 Bronze ) in 2018 Jakarta Asian Para Games.
India secured the maximum medal in Athletics 55 Medals (18 Gold, 17 Silver and 20 Bronze) followed by 21 Medals in Badminton, Chess 8 Medals, Archery 7, Shooting 6 Medals, Canoe 4, Powerlifting 3, Judo 2, 1 each in Swimming, Taekwondo and Rowing) .
Indian Team participated for the first time in the following Sports, Boccia, Blind Football, Lawn Bowls, Taekwondo , Rowing and Canoe.
The youngest player to participate in the said Games was 14 year old Sharon Rachel Aby who participated in Chess and the oldest player was 50 year old Surjeet Singh who participated in Para Lown Bowls .
The Team was felicitated today by Consul General of India in Shanghai Dr. N. Nandakumar at the Asian Games Village. He applauded the performance of the Indian Para Athletes and distributed memento.
On final day (Day 6) India Team participated in 3 Sports - Athletics, Chess and Rowing
