Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) is the apex body for promotion and development of Para Sports for the persons with disabilities in India. Paralympic Committee of India is a recognized National Sports Federation (NSF) by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), Government of India. PCI is registered in Bengaluru, under Karnataka Societies Registration Act, 1960, bearing Registration No. 280/94-95 dated 08.07.1994, is also registered with NITI Aayog, Govt. of India vide its Unique ID: DL/2016/0099909. Further, Paralympic Committee of India is recognized by International Paralympic committee (IPC) which is the World Body for all disability sports, viz. Visually Impaired, Orthopedically Challenged, Wheel Chair and Paraplegics, intellectually impaired and Dwarf, as such, Paralympic Committee of India is an Umbrella Organization of all these disability sports.
The objectives of this organization is to promote Sports for the differently abled in our country, Identifying the Para Sports persons at all India levels, duly imparting necessary training and preparing them to take part in State, National & International Sports meets is the major activity of Paralympic Committee of India.
Paralympic Committee of India has affiliated membership of 26 State associations, 8 Individual Para Sports federations and 6 National Sports federations. The affiliates of Paralympic Committee of India works for the development of Paralympic movement across the country. The sole responsibility of selecting the Indian team for Paralympic Games, Para Asian Games and all International championships lies only with Paralympic Committee of India.
In Tokyo Paralympic Games 2020, Indian team won 5 Gold, 8 Silver and 6 Bronze medals which is above able bodied medal Talley. The Indian Para Athletes and its Coaches have over the years accumulated several credentials and have received prestigious National awards for our member athletes including 3 Rajeev Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, 1 Padmavibhusahan Award, 7 Padmashri Awards, 44 Arjuna Awards, 06 Dronacharya Awards, and 04 Dhyan Chand Awards. This Sporting achievements are due to the collective efforts of Paralympic committee of India and Sports Ministry.
The amended by-laws and constitution of Paralympic Committee of India clearly signifies the Paralympic vision, roles and responsibilities, Para athletes centric and as per National Sports code 2011 which is the Government of India guidelines for promotion of sports as National Sports federation.
Paralympic Committee of India is funded by Government of India and through CSR funding for promotion and development of Paralympic sport in India. The donations to Paralympic Committee of India has tax exemptions and also FCRA for International funding.
Paralympic Committee of India has made MOU with Indian Army and Indian Oil Corporation limited for working towards the development of Para Sports in India.
Paralympic committee of India will be conducting the World Para Shooting championship 2024 in India.
